​Throughout the interactive sessions, participants gained critical conceptual clarity on distinguishing between misinformation, disinformation, and mal information—concepts that were entirely novel to many attending leaders. A major focal point centered on leveraging early warning detection and rapid response mechanisms to intercept malicious narratives before they escalate into uncontrollable violence. By collaboratively developing localized mitigation strategies, these 20 stakeholders are now effectively positioned as frontline peacebuilders, empowered to do a step-down training to empower others to counter harmful narratives and promote peace within their respective constituencies across Katsina State.

The post As part of the project “Countering Disinformation and Empowering Democracy in Northwestern Nigeria,” the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) successfully convened a specialized capacity-building training for 20 key community stakeholders in Katsina State. first appeared on WANEP-Nigeria.
