  • With the recent conflict between the Lugunda and Waja ethnic groups in Balanga Local Government Area, Gombe State on February 8, 2022 over 2,000 persons have been displaced from their homes with a large number of women and children taking refuge in the IDP camp in Jessu community,. The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP ) in Partnership with Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre went on an advocacy visit to the District Head of Nuer community.

The traditional ruler who was delighted to receive the team reiterated the need to identify the root causes of the protracted conflict and put structures in place to promote lasting peace between the two ethnic groups.

A visit by the project team to the IDP Camp in Jessu, Balanga LGA revealed that Women and Children had been largely displaced by the conflict. WANEP- Nigeria and Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre presented relief materials to the camp authorities to cater for the needs of the  IDPs.
