Following an initial training of 20 community stakeholders, participants took the learning further through step-down engagements, using the Community Knowledge and Action Guide to engage community members on the risks associated with misinformation, disinformation, mal-information, hate speech and other harmful narratives.
The discussions highlighted how harmful information can fuel fear, collective blame, distrust, exclusion and conflict, while promoting practical ways communities can respond.
Remember the PAUSE approach:
P — Pause before forwarding
A — Ask who created the message and what evidence supports it
U — Understand who may benefit or be harmed
S — Search trusted and independent sources
E — Evaluate whether sharing could cause panic, blame or violence
Responsible information-sharing is a community peacebuilding practice.
